Government
Agencies Should Check
Their Own Employees for Illegal Aliens
|
Tens of thousands of government agencies in America employee millions of workers. Many are illegal aliens. This injures the general taxpaying public and the other legal government employees. It also calls into question the commitment to the "rule of law" by government agencies. Government agencies could sign up for the free, simple, online federal E-Verify Program to verify an employee's eligibility to work in this country. It's run by the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration: https://www.vis-dhs.com/EmployerRegistration. State Department Watch is conducting a "Diogenes Honesty Search" program to find government agencies which do check on their employees and to urge those who don't to sign up. (Diogenes was the Greek philosopher who walked about with a lantern looking for "an honest man.") Our search starts near the West Coast Office of State Department Watch. We urge everyone else to start with their local government agencies. The specific government bodies and their responses are shown in the table below. Here is the statement that is presented to the meetings of these government agencies. DIOGENES HONESTY SEARCH For Government Bodies To Verify Employee Eligibility Statement by Carl Olson, Chairman, State Department Watch Publicly-elected bodies must be on the forefront of the “rule of law”. Anything else becomes a bad example for the public, schoolchildren, and employees. All employers, including government bodies, need to verify the eligibility of employees to work in this country. There is the constant threat from the 10 to 20 million illegal aliens who could be hired with the use of fraudulent documents. Not only are the taxpayers injured, but the other employees and prospective employment candidates will be unfairly harmed by this ultimate “resume padding”. The threat is real. The Los Angeles City Department of Water and Power found five illegals on its payroll for more than three years in positions ranging from management analyst to water sampling technician. They came from Ethiopia, Nigeria, El Salvador, Mexico, and the Philippines. All employers are eligible to use the free, simple, federal online E-Verify Program to verify the eligibility of persons to work in this country. See the website: https://www.vis-dhs.com/EmployerRegistration. An example of a responsible employer is Dunkin' Brands Inc. It requires the use of the Basic Pilot Program for all its franchisees of Dunkin' Donuts, Baskin-Robbins, and Togo's restaurants. We will post the names of public bodies which enroll in the “Basic Pilot Program” and those which refuse such requests. (See below.) The issue of illegal aliens has become a top priority in the electorate’s mind. In the city of Herndon, Virginia, virtually all of the city council was defeated for re-election in May 2006 because they maintained a hiring site for illegal aliens. You are hereby requested to enroll in the “Basic Pilot Program” and to let us know your decision as soon as possible. The rule of law must be the cornerstone to your ongoing incumbency. |
